Figure Legend: Hook of hamate fractures
may not be adequately visualized even on multiple specialty views, particularly
when they are nondisplaced. Many if not most hook of hamate fractures
progress to non-union, and pose an ongoing risk for flexor tendon ruptures.
Patients may remain symptomatic and are at risk for tendon complications
from partial unions as well. Such fractures require high-definition CT
scans or trispiral tomography for diagnosis. These CT images demonstrate
a partial union seen on 3D reconstruction (left) and longitudinal reconstructions
(right) despite normal plain films.
