Figure Legend: Hook of hamate fractures may not be adequately visualized even on multiple specialty views, particularly when they are nondisplaced.  Many if not most hook of hamate fractures progress to non-union, and pose an ongoing risk for flexor tendon ruptures.  Patients may remain symptomatic and are at risk for tendon complications from partial unions as well. Such fractures require high-definition CT scans or trispiral tomography for diagnosis. These CT images demonstrate a partial union seen on 3D reconstruction (left) and longitudinal reconstructions (right) despite normal plain films.
