Symptom Magnification Discussion

Symptom Magnification or Exaggerated Pain Response: Some patients appear to have more pain, difficulties or incapacitation than would be expected on the average for the working diagnosis. Symptom magnification may be due to physical, cultural or psychological factors as well as other forces which are poorly understood. The implication of symptom magnification or exaggerated pain response is that the results of standard treatment are less predictable and the chance of delayed, temporary, or incomplete recovery is greater.
