CMC fracture dislocation other than Bennett's therapy

0-2 weeks:

Active range of motion as allowed by the postoperative dressing.

2 weeks:

The postoperative dressing is removed.

A light dressing and edema control are applied as needed.

A well molded Wrist Immobilization splint or cast is fitted for continual wear.

Gentle active and Passive Range of Motion exercises are initiated to the digits 15 min/hr.

4 weeks:

Active Range of Motion exercises are initiated to the wrist and forearm each hour.

Electric muscle stimulation may be initiated to facilitate tendon excursion.

6 weeks:

Begin Passive Range of Motion exercises to the wrist and forearm.

Dynamic splinting may be used as needed to increase passive wrist Range of Motion.
